Tories seize lead in polls

Well the Sunday Times has an interesting story.

Cameron’s approval rating, with a net 34% of people expecting him to do well, is well above that for Blair and Charles Kennedy, the Lib Dem leader. More significantly, it easily outstrips Gordon Brown’s rating, which has slumped. His net approval rating was 41% before the general election; now it is just 4%.

Let's have that again. Cameron 34% - Brown 4%.

But what if the economy continues to slide - heavens he might really become unpopular!

I think you'll find Blair's not at all happy. The media are concentrating on Cameron, describing him as the new bright future of politics and describing Blair and Brown as Cameron did at PMQs: "You were the future once".

The public, clearly, are responding to Cameron's early success so there's no reason for you to be made to laugh! Of course it is early, but if he can keep the momentum and come up wit sensible, well-communicated policies, the Tories will win in 2009/2010...

No two ways about it - it's a good start!

I don't hold with this received wisdom that the country will accept Brown without a murmur. While Blair is a Scot in disguise, Brown isn't. And I think this will count against him at the polls.

This is good for British politics. I think Cameron is a good choice for the Conservatives. For the first time, you might have a Labour government with a serious opposition.
